This event is all ages

Like many other synthwave artists, GosT’s songs are cut from the same blood-soaked cloth as horror greats like John Carpenter. His songs don’t just set the mood for movies, though—they’re the feature presentation, equal parts chaos and pure theatre.

A lot of that stems from GosT’s KISS obsession as a kid. “They had a huge impact on me performance-wise,” he recalls. “They were so over-the-top on stage and in myth.”

The same goes for GosT itself, a project shrouded in mystery, helmed by a producer wreathed in smoke and donning a skeleton mask. The whole thing seems larger-than-life—especially in a scene that is typically laid-back and reserved.

“Only a few of us have taken synthwave towards the Justice end of the spectrum,” the producer says when we point out the similarities between his new album, Non Paradisi, and dance music. “It’s been natural, but we’re a small group of outcasts.”

Chalk that intensity up to GosT’s past as a member of several metal/hardcore bands—the identities of which he’d rather keep secret. But it’s not that simple—songs like “Aggrandizement” are both dynamic and deep. Our conversation, unsurprisingly, is the same.

"Danielle “Danz” Johnson is a self-taught song-writer, arranger, composer, producer and mixer. She's a label owner, too (Channel 9 Records). Based out of New York State, she was born and raised in the Catskills in upstate New York and moved to Chinatown in New York City to attend Hunter College.

After living in New York City and DJing at the age of 18, she decided to move in with her mom in Tampa, to get away from city life. There, she taught herself how to make music and put up several EP’s for free online under the moniker of Computer Magic. Alas, it began.

Danz has released 9 EP’s worldwide and 4 LP’s, 3 of which Japan exclusives under Computer Magic. She has written and produced numerous songs for commercials (Lexus, Aria Casino in Las Vegas, Panasonic Beauty in Japan, and QP Half). She has remixed artists (Strange Names, Pink Feathers). She has modeled clothes for Kim Gordon's brand X-Girl and Sofia Coppola's clothing line Milkfed (now both owned in Japan), and tours frequently in the USA and Japan.

Her new record semi-self-titled "Danz" will come out on Channel 9 Records in February 2018. She is also working on a full length rock record with her friend and collaborator Cody Crump."
